Weekend Update

Things have been pretty busy around the Not-so-perfect household and I thought I'd give you a little weekend update:
  • We are hosting Christmas at our house this year since I can't travel and I've been getting lots of things in order for when everyone arrives. I think the UPS man thinks I've gone completely crazy shopping this year since everyone is just shipping their gifts here so they don't have to travel with them. My parents are arriving a few days before Christmas and my sister and her two kidos are flying from New York on Christmas Eve and they are all staying till January 9th so they will almost certainly be here for the birth of our second little girl and they'll be able to watch Abigail for us! This could be a bit stressful for me since I'm a bit of a control freak and clean freak but I have already been mentally preparing myself and telling myself...."it's OK for the house not to look perfect," "it will be great for Abigail to have so much family here while we are in the hospital" and overall I think it will be great to have so much family here to not only celebrate Christmas but to share in the excitement of the arrival of our little girl.
  • I missed my midwife appointment last Monday because of some confusion with the scheduling people...my appointment was for 1:15 and for some reason they didn't have me down so they said they'd "work me in." But after waiting for over an hour I had to leave to get home. My Prince was working from home while Abigail napped and had to get to a meeting. I was a little disappointed to miss an appointment but I've been feeling great so I'm not worried and now I'm excited for my next appointment this Monday. I'll be 37 weeks!!

  • I think I'm pretty much have everything ready for our little girls' arrival. I washed some tiny clothes the other day and even bought a package of newborn diapers! I had a coupon that was about to expire and didn't need any for Abigail. Abigail has been having fun putting them on her dolls and I can't believe how small they are! I think I only used one or two packages of newborn diapers with Abigail since she was big she outgrew them at two weeks.
  • Abigail has been in underwear now for about three weeks and she is doing great! Most days she stays completely dry all day but we are still working hard on getting her poop in the potty every time. She's done it a couple times now but she is still pretty reluctant to poop on the potty and I'm afraid she holds it in sometimes which then gives her a tummy ache. From what I've heard this is a pretty common thing so we'll just keep working on it and whenever she does poop in the potty I try to shower her with praise and attention. I also can't get enough of seeing cute little buns in her pants now that she doesn't have a diaper on...she looks so grown up and skinny!

  • I have been reluctant to blog about Abigail's new found love of sleeping because I don't want to jinx it but ever since Abigail got tubes about a month ago she has been sleeping like a pro. Most nights she goes down between 7:30 and 8:00 without any complaining and I don't hear a peep until about 6:30 or 7:00! It's the most amazing thing...I never knew you could just put a baby/toddler in their crib and they'd just go to sleep. At first I felt almost sad for some reason like she didn't need me anymore but then I realized hello I'm having another baby soon and she's really going to need me! For a few weeks we struggled with her waking up super early at like 5:30 and being ready for the day but then I found this great night light that's on timer and it shines blue like the moon when it's time to sleep and shines yellow like the sun when it's time to wake up. It worked the first time! I just explained and showed Abigail how it worked and said "Mommy's not going to come in and get you till the light shines like the sun, if you wake up and it's the moon you have to snuggle with your doggie and blankie and go back to sleep." It's called the Goodnite Lite and I'd recommend it to anyone who's struggling with their little one waking during the night or waking up too early. Check it out at: http://www.goodnitelite.com/

  • My Prince and I have been having quite the time getting Abigail's gift from Santa ready. She's getting a train table with a Thomas Train Set. I got a great deal on a train table at Target and then splurged on the real Thomas train set but I guess the Thomas table is a little longer so we are having quite the time trying to set up the train set to fit right on the table. I'm sure it'd be funny to see us both down there moving different pieces of track around trying to make it work. We are gluing it down like they do at Barnes and Noble and the library and it's seriously racking our brains. I think I'm going to have to special order a couple special pieces of track to make it all work....what a pain!

  • Abigail and I had to get out of the house for an hour or so this afternoon while the realtor was showing our house and my goal was to find her some shoes to go with the super cute Christmas dress I ordered her the other day. If you follow me on Twitter you'll already know this but I ended up getting her these super cute silver sparkly shoes by Wee Squeak and yes they actually squeak with every step she takes. She of course loves them and wore them out of the store squeaking all the way. They may drive me crazy but the saleswoman did show me how to take the squeaker out if I need to.
That's it for this week's edition of Weekend Update (maybe I'll make this a weekly thing) and I'll try to do a better job keeping up with my blog, since they'll be lots of exciting things to blog about in the next few weeks!
